Five Paragraph Essay


The Introduction is the first paragraph. It contains an explanation of what the essay is going to be about.  Your thesis statement is included in the first paragraph.

Introduction

  • Gets readers’ interest (Hook them)
  • Tell readers what you are writing about (Scope)
  • State your purpose
  • Thesis Statement
  • Readers expect it
  • Usually part of the introduction
  • Should state the focus of your paper

     

    Supporting Paragraphs

    • What is the main idea of each supporting paragraph?
    • What are your supporting details?
    • What are some related facts?
    •  Share your opinion
    •  Discuss/Explain
    •  Compare/Contrast

    Conclusion

    • State your THESIS again
    • Show readers what you said you would do
