Structuring A Persuasive Essay as a Business Letter
Effective Lead

• Writer introduces him/herself and gives a bit of background.
• Opening comments lead up to the focus. Writer’s thesis is stated clearly; writer explains why he/she is writing.
• Three main points in support of the thesis are introduced using transition words.
• A concluding sentence to the paragraph is present.
Solid, Supporting Middle
• A paragraph is written to explain each main point.
• The thesis is stated in each paragraph as a topic sentence but appears in a variety of ways.
• A solid amount of facts and details are given to support each point, each topic sentence.
• All supporting information in each paragraph should relate to the topic sentence of that paragraph.
Cleaver, Convincing Conclusion
• The writer thanks the reader.
• Writer gives a “wish” for the future or hope for change.
Throughout the Essay
• A number of transition words have been used.
• Elaborative phrases are in place.
• Quotes/dialogue is present to support thesis.
• All numbers used in the body are written out in words.
• Abbreviations are NOT used throughout the essay.

Egg Drop Day

 

Working Against Gravity… A project.

Imagine that your teacher will drop an egg off the building onto the blacktop some 50 feet below. What do you suppose will happen? (SPLAT)
Your assignment is to design something that an egg can be placed in… dropped off the building…the egg will survive! Therefore, working against gravity!
There are some rules that must be followed. This must be completed and brought to school on Friday. Good Luck!
Rules:
1) The container must be allowable on the bus!
2) It must have an opening so I can put the egg in place
3) It must be made out of items that can be thrown away.

There are no other limitations, so have fun. Parents are allowed to help!! Egg Drop day will be this Friday, May 29.

2. Landform: The city of San Jose is located on the San Andreas fault zone, the most active fault zone in the world. Earthquakes happen on fault zones.
